When Jolleen Palmer was elected Coffey Health System’s Health Care Worker of the Year in July, her supervisor described her as a “hidden gem.” CHS’s gem is no longer hidden. On September 8, the Kansas Hospital Association awarded Palmer its prestigious Health Care Worker of the Year Award.
“We couldn’t be more proud of Jolleen,” said Coffey Health System Chief Executive Officer Leonard Hernandez. “She nourishes the soul of Coffey County Hospital, literally and physically. She is a role model for all of us, and unfailingly kind to our patients and cafeteria visitors.”
In her 18 years at Coffey County Hospital, Palmer has touched countless lives and inspired her colleagues with her positive spirit and ever-present smile. Her salad bar is a labor of love—there are no pre-packaged salads on her watch. She chops fresh ingredients and serves creations she makes from scratch. When serving patients, Jolleen doesn’t just set the tray down and leave; she happily helps each patient get ready to eat—treating them like royalty being served a feast.
Palmer was among seven nominees from across the state. Vicki Caywood of Hutchinson Regional Medical Center also received a Health Care Worker of the Year Award during the KHA awards luncheon in Overland Park.
