Coffey County Chamber Celebrates Arrival of New Telephone Service from Mediacom
Fiber network delivers 1-Gig Internet, plus phone service, to Burlington, Gridley, Lebo, Le Roy, New Strawn
BURLINGTON, KS – April 2018 — Mediacom Communications was the featured guest at a Coffey County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony held April 18 to mark the arrival of a new, flat-fee telephone service to five Coffey County communities.
By adding local and long-distance telephone to the services Mediacom delivers over its fiber communications network, residents and businesses in Burlington, Gridley, Lebo, Le Roy and New Strawn can choose to receive a complete bundle of telecommunication services from one provider.
The Chamber event also provided a forum for Mediacom to discuss and demonstrate the impact of 1-Gig internet speeds which are among the fastest broadband speeds available anywhere in the country, delivering data at a download speed of up to one-gigabit-per-second (1,000 Mbps) and upload speeds of 50 Mbps.
In recent months, Mediacom upgraded all parts of its fiber-based digital network and became the first Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the U.S. to widely deploy the new-generation technology of Gigabit internet to broad areas of rural-based states, predominately in the Midwest (see attached map for 1-Gig deployment).
Mediacom subscribers in Coffey County gained the option to choose gigabit internet speeds earlier than residents in most areas of the country, according to Steve Bennett, Mediacom’s senior director for area operations.
“Our extensive fiber optic network delivers services to communities in parts of eastern Kansas and neighboring Missouri,” Bennett said. “Our company’s commitment is to ensure that residents and businesses in these smaller and medium-sized communities have access to the newest digital technologies and are not lagging behind larger cities. We’ve done this by bringing 1-Gig speeds to Coffey County, and now by adding a low-cost telephone service to increase competition and provide the convenience of a triple-play bundle from one service provider.”
As the telecommunication and home entertainment landscape has changed, U.S. consumers continue to show a preference for subscription bundles to gain more features and services from a single provider. Technology offered by Mediacom today includes TiVo and its intuitive search capabilities that helps viewers quickly find and stream programs from any source that is part of a home subscription, including Netflix, Hulu and other non-traditional cable services.
