SOS Anti-Bullying Speaker
7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8 at the Emporia High School Auditorium.
Gabrielle Ford  - After eight years of studying ballet, Gabe’s dreams of becoming a prima ballerina came to an abrupt halt when she was diagnosed with the rare genetic neuromuscular disease called Friedreich’s Ataxia (F.A.).  Victimized by school bullies, Gabe became severely depressed after graduating from high school. Afraid of running into former classmates who bullied her through the years, she was unwilling to leave her home. It wasn’t until a coon hound named Izzy came into her life that she found the courage to live again.
Tickets- $15 each, will be on sale at The Granada Coffee Company, and SOS Administrative Offices in the lower level of CoreFirst Bank & Trust at 701 Merchant. Thanks to a grant from The Hopkins Foundation, with each adult ticket purchased, a ticket for a K-12 student is available at no charge. Additional student tickets will be $5. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Movie Day at the Rec
Settle in with a 25 cent bag of popcorn and enjoy a G or PG rated movie in the conference room at the Rec.  All ages are invited to join the fun as long as they are willing to watch the movie quietly.

Lunch & Learn at Coffey County Hospital
Rare first-hand perspective from a survivor and health care professional.  As an infant, Julie Evans came into the world with a congenital heart defect.  After multiple heart surgeries, she gave up a career in accounting to become a nurse.  She has made it her mission to educate others about heart health.  "This is a unique opportunity to learn first-hand from someone who is both a patient and a health care professional," said Tracy Campbell, CHS director of marketing.  While some major risk factors for heart disease cannot be controlled- age, gender, and heredity- there are steps you can take to lessen your risk.  Evans will address important measures you can take to lessen your risk of heart attack.
The Lunch & Learn event takes place on Friday, February 12, at noon in Coffey County Hospital's Allen Woods II Conference Room.  Attendance and lunch are free.  Seating is limited, so register today by calling Tracy Campbell at (620) 364-5655 Ext. 4195.  Please include your name, telephone, and the number of people wanting to attend.  Online registration is also available at
